Heute, am 16. Januar 2009 wird erstmals der „International Fetish Day“ begangen. Er ist hervorgegangen aus dem erstmals am 21. Januar 2008 im United Kingdom begangenen „National Fetish Day“.

Wie man dem entsprechenden – englischsprachigen – Wikipedia-Eintrag
unter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Fetish_Day entnehmen kann werden folgende Punkte als die wichtigsten Ziele dieses Tages angesehen:

• Sensibilisierung und Unterstützung der Fetisch-Community
• Förderung der Mitglieder der Fetish- und BDSM-Subkultur zu mehr Offenheit betreffend ihrer Sexualität
• Stellungnahme gegen das Gesetz zur Bekämpfung des Besitzes von „extreme Pornographie“, welches am 26.1.2009 in Großbritannien in Kraft treten wird.

Als Zeichen sollten Mitglieder der „BDSM- bzw. Fetischgemeinschaft“ an diesem Tag ein lilafarbenes Kleidungsstück tragen (Perverts Wear Purple).

Es ist geplant, dass dieser „Gedenktag“ in Hinkunft jeweils am 3.
Freitag im Jahr („the third Friday of the year“) begangen wird.

Kommentar: Der „International Fetish Day“ scheint hierzulande – wie auch der 24.7. als „Internationaler BDSM-Tag“ (siehe SWL-Meldung vom 18.7.08) noch relativ unbekannt zu sein.

„International Fetish Day is a day supporting the BDSM community. It originated in the United Kingdom as „National Fetish Day“ and was first held on 21 January 2008.[1] The first International Fetish Day is to be held on 16 January 2009.[2] The main purpose of International Fetish Day is to increase awareness and support of the fetish community, whilst also opposing the new law criminalising possession of „extreme pornography“.[3] It is also designed to encourage members of the community to be more open about their sexuality.[1].

On National Fetish Day, one of the main aspects is that members of the community wear an item of purple clothing as a sign that they are

all over the country in saying ‚It’s ok to enjoy what I enjoy‘ without damaging your ‚vanilla‘ identity or integrity.“[1] There has been contention around the slogan ‚Perverts Wear Purple‘ primarily to do with the fact that many in the BDSM community distance themselves from the ‚pervert‘ label. Others in the community feel that using the word ‚Pervert‘ is a useful reclaiming.[4] (..)“
